A metal raised bed is dimensionally stable, does not warp and is far less vulnerable to rot, fungi and pests than wood. The most durable option is a raised bed made from galvanised steel with a high-quality powder coating. Our ranges are tested in salt-spray and UV ageing tests and are designed for at least ten years of outdoor use – much longer than untreated timber or simple DIY kits.

When installed correctly and used under normal conditions, Hongmao Garden metal raised beds can easily be used for ten years or more. Galvanisation protects the steel, while the powder coating minimises corrosion and colour fading – even under frost, rain and strong UV exposure.

You should avoid filling the raised bed with pure construction waste or concrete rubble, heavily compacted soil, chemically contaminated material or only stones. For healthy plant growth we recommend a layered structure with coarse organic material (branches, wood chips), compost, garden soil and a suitable top layer depending on the crops.

In the first two years it is usually enough to top up the sunken soil and add fertiliser. After 3–5 years it makes sense to replace the upper layers, and for very intensive use a full replacement may be useful. For professional projects we recommend a maintenance plan, which we can coordinate with your landscaping partners.

You can fill a raised bed only with soil, but it is less efficient. A layered structure improves aeration, drainage and long-term nutrient supply. It also reduces the total weight – an important factor for balconies and roof terraces.

For private gardens, lengths of 100–140 cm, widths of around 60–80 cm and a working height of 80–90 cm have proven practical. For housing projects, hospitality or municipal sites we adapt length, height and module width to your layout and maintenance concept. We work with galvanised steel sheet in project-optimised thicknesses, combined with weather-resistant powder coating. Depending on the series we also use aluminium profiles, stainless-steel fittings and decorative elements such as wood-effect panels or polycarbonate covers.
